The Sagle Fire District is located in the panhandle region of north Idaho and provides public and emergency service in Bonner County for 164 square miles. The county has large stands of timber, agriculture, road less wilderness areas, and a significant and growing wildland/urban interface zone. The fire district is staffed with nine full time firefighters, three on duty each day, twenty eight volunteers, a half-time district clerk and a full time fire chief. The District has five stations, Station 1 is the main station which is staffed with the three person crew and houses the administrative personnel. The other four stations are staffed by volunteers. Two of these stations have been constructed in the last four years and paid for predominantly by local fund raisers. Included in the service area are; a major natural gas pipeline, US Highway 95 which has been identified as the fifth deadliest highway in the country, and major railroad routes which average 60 trains per day and cross a bridge 2 miles long over the Pend O’reille river.
